... I'm only two hours into the game, but so far so good - with a few exceptions.
Issun, your side-kick in this game, has got to be one of the most annoying characters I've ever experienced. Talk, talk, talk, talk... that's all this character has done in this game so far. And there's a HECK of a lot of dialog I've been forced to read through in the two hours I've played this game.
The gibberish "wha, wha, wha's" that go on when trying to read all of this stuff became annoying really fast. I found the simple "hey!" of Link's side-kick, Midna much more appealing. At least she shuts the hell up when you're trying to read.
If this level of dialog continues throughout the game, I'm afraid it's going to be a deal breaker for me. It really gets in the way and slows the game down. I'm speculating (and really hoping) all this dialog is because I'm really in "training" and that it's going to taper off as the plot progresses - and I need less instruction from Issun and the other characters.
Okay, with the terrible mannerisms of the game's characters aside, I found this game to be very beautiful, graphically. The colours and artwork are spectacular.
One review I read stated that pausing the game at any time would result in a picture (or work of art) on your T.V. screen worthy of framing. From what I've seen, I have to agree.
I also found the use of a Celestial brush very innovative and a wonderful match for the Wii-mote controller. It's taken some time to get the hang of it, but my brush control skills are coming along.
I expected the switching back and forth to "paint" mode to slow the combat sequences down, but it doesn't. Kind of cool, actually, and unique enough to keep me interested.
It's been a tiring two hours (because of the character issues I mentioned above), but I'll be spending more time with this game over the weekend.
If you see it at the rental store, I suggest checking it out... or you may even want to pick up your own copy. At $39.00 (CND), it's quite reasonably price.
