im 90% positive that any game developer with half a brain would make the 2 sets compatable

Yes, everything that you got with the Rock Band Special Edition Bundle will be compatible with Rock Band 2. If you ever wanted to add on the 3 extra cymbals, which are optional, you would need to get the Rock Band 2 drum kit.

The Guitar Hero III guitar will work on Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2. It does NOT work with Rock Band. Another gripe to this-The GHIII guitar does not have the extra panel for solos. The Rock Band guitar only works with Rock Band and Rock Band 2. The Rock Band drums only work with Rock Band and Rock Band 2, and the Guitar Hero World Tour drums only work with Guitar Hero World Tour. The microphone works with all games.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions have all of their instruments forward and backward compatible, only because they have a "universal input/output" rule, where all instruments should work with all games anytime. The Wii versions cannot do this because the Rock Band instruments use a USB connection, while the Guitar Hero instruments use Wii Remotes in theirs. The mic works for everything, though, as stated before.
