Nintendo Aims for the 'Halo Crowd' in 2009

In an interview Monday with Stephen Totilo on the MTV Multiplayer blog, Nintendo's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Cammie Dunaway spoke about the company's goal to attract the 'Halo crowd' in 2009. In being questioned about Nintendo's approach to the core gamer, Dunaway cited games like The Conduit and Madworld for their graphical prowess and "sheer creativity" on the system.

Dunaway then brought up that these sorts of games "...one [the games make] other developers stand up and take notice. And two, that makes consumers say, 'Huh. Maybe there's something to this.'" Totilo then asked about Nintendo's own approach from a software standpoint, to which Dunaway defaulted to Sin & Punishment 2 and Punch Out!!, both Nintendo-published titles.

"I think that next year you're going to see the tide turn a little bit, in terms of people realizing that the Wii can have something of interest for everybody... I think next year is going to be a pretty good year in terms of the breadth of offerings that are going to be out there for a bunch of folks."

Nintendo has a lot of hands to hold at the moment. But according to Cammie, they're not forgetting you. With the looming prospects of The Conduit, Madworld, and the recent release of Castlevania Judgement, it is tough not to feel some excitement as a Wii owner. So even if it means third-party titles will be the golden ticket to getting that "core" feeling back in the system, then there is still a lot to look forward to.
