Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode

Nintendo has officially announced (via GameTrailers) an ... interesting looking ... multiplayer mode for upcoming Wii game, Punch-Out!! Hidden after a full minute of the Punch-Out!! trailer we've already seen is the entirely new minute, containing news of not only the modestly named "Head-to-Head" mode but also "Giga Mac" (pictured above).Gleaning what we can from the trailer, we're wont to believe that the large version of Little Mac is a direct product of well-placed punches filling up a "super" meter next to each players respective health bars. Nintendo clearly wants us to know the appearance of "Giga Mac" isn't a game ender for multiplayer, though, as even in the video (after the break) Little Mac prevails against his gargantuan twin. We're looking forward to finding out even more about Punch-Out!! when it arrives on May 18.

Proof that Starfy in English is really happening

We still can't believe that Nintendo has actually decided to grace us with a Starfy game -- in the same year that we're given a Rhythm Tengoku game. Why didn't we ever see the previous games? It's not like Nintendo of America didn't trust TOSE to create a good platform game. What's next, Kuru Kuru Kururin?Whatever the reasoning, it appears that Nintendo is finally going to give us a Starfy game for reals. Look at those screens! Localization is happening! The Legendary Starfy is launching in North America on June 8. Head into our gallery if you feel prepared for five points of cuteness.

The NES purse: Worth pursuing?

Etsy user inhope has crafted a work of art. We say that not only because her enormous NES controller purse is aesthetically dreamy, but because we couldn't possibly imagine bringing it into the wild and reckless life we lead without worrying it'd be destroyed. $39.99 nets you this beast of a bag that'll go perfectly with your NES-themed earrings and that Midna cosplay outfit you've been dying to break out again. But don't come running to us when your heart gets broken by that power-hungry desert thief again. If we've warned you once, we've warned you a thousand times: Don't get involved with dudes who have glowing faces![Via Engadget]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Joystiq impressions: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Click for full-size scares!
Although it was probably the most impressive looking game shown at Konami's Gamer's Night 2009 event last week, the "Wii-imagining" of Silent Hill, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, was sadly not playable. It's a shame, too, considering how natural the game's motion controls appeared in the on-stage demo; seeing them in action made us really want to try them. We were left to watch the footage of the Climax-developed title and imagine what it will be like, roaming the streets of the snow-covered town, flashlight in hand and camera phone at the ready to catch the unexplainable and unnerving. Fortunately, it was a fairly meaty bit of footage that provided a good idea of what to expect from the game when we finally do get our hands on it.

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Last Week on the Nintendo Channel

Did you miss out on the opportunity to play any -- or even all -- of last week's downloadable DS demos? This week is awesome for you, and only for you. Because the Nintendo Channel features exactly the same demos as last week. Well, it's swapped out the Personal Trainer: Cooking mac and cheese recipe for lasagna, but that happens every week. We're still pretty happy to see Gardening Mama, but our goodwill toward the title is going to diminish as it continues to headline the demo service. At least the videos are new. Check after the break for the list of available downloads.

Netflix job posting hints at movie streaming for other consoles

A curious new job listing for Netflix seeks an "Engineering Leader -- Gaming Platforms," reports Gamasutra. The applicant is expected to have experience developing and testing media rich applications, and should be prepared to "rapidly prototype and iterate on a variety of platforms."Either Netflix is getting into the game streaming space, or this may be another sign that Netflix streaming is coming to other consoles. Considering the relative success of Netflix on Xbox 360, it's not surprising that the company would like to expand its service and branding to other consoles -- that is, if this "Engineering Leader" can figure it out.[Via Gamasutra]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
