Fanmade MadWorld figurine oozes cool

There are plenty of things to love about MadWorld. The over-the-top slapstick action, the hilarious commentators, and fun Blood Bath Challenges are just a few of the things we enjoy in Platinum Games' latest title. Well, deviantART user ebooze loves the game's main character Jack so much that he decided to make his own custom figurine, complete with detachable chainsaws of both the bloody and clean variety. We see an ESRB rating in The Conduit's 'All Seeing Eye' trailer

The beginning of this trailer for The Conduit reveals the answer to one of the biggest questions surrounding High Voltage's FPS: the ESRB rating. Yes, that was one of the biggest questions surrounding The Conduit, along with the identity of the publisher. It's controversial and kind of mundane at the same time!Of course, with The Conduit, we understand the concerns about the ESRB rating. The Conduit is labeled T, which may be a disappointment to those of you hoping for a nonstop bloody mess -- or a relief to those of you fearing sleeping gas and Nerf guns. This trailer demonstrates the "All Seeing Eye," the item that deciphers alien writing, interfaces with computers, and pretty much seems to do everything. We're going to call it the "Plot Device."Permalink | Email this | Comments

Want a weightier Wii experience? Try 'Riiflex'

In one of the most unexpectedly practical ideas to hit the world of ridiculous Wii accessories, Power Play Corporation has announced the upcoming release of "Riiflex," a set of dumbbells designed to fit the Wiimote and Nunchuk inside. Just making the controllers heavier allows you to turn normal waggling into a workout! This item was announced back in January, and now it's available for preorder at an unfortunately hefty $34.95 price for two-pound weights, or $39.95 for four-pound weights. The Wiimote attachment features a hole in the front for the pointer, and both the Wiimote and Nunchuk holders allow access to the triggers. Of course, most dumbbell training courses consist mostly of repetitive motions targeting specific muscle groups, and not just, uh, waving one arm around while holding the other one still, but we still think this is a neat idea. Especially when compared to other crummy Wiimote shells!

Sega officially reveals Bleach: The 3rd Phantom

We spotted Bleach: The 3rd Phantom on GameStop's "coming soon" list a month ago, but it's taken until just now for Sega of America to make an official announcement. According to the press release, The 3rd Phantom will be out this fall. We have the first English screenshots in our gallery. The 3rd Phantom, unlike the last two DS Bleach games, is a strategy RPG, with an original storyline that "shed[s] light on events that transpire before the animated series begins," focusing on two Soul Reaper twins named Fujimaru Kudo and Matsuri Kudo. The new RPG will feature voice work from the Bleach anime cast. Over fifty playable characters are available, with many unlocked through the management of "personal relationships through in-game dialog interactions and various other conditions." Exactly what Bleach fans want out of their fighting manga series!Permalink | Email this | Comments

Nielsen report reveals average game console usage

The Nielsen group has released a new report on usage of the three major consoles. Coming as little surprise, Nielsen's study has placed Wii in dead last, with the average player using the console 6.8 percent of the time during Nielsen's study in December, 2008. During that same period, those involved in the study played Xbox 360 10.2 percent and PS3 10.6 percent -- nearly double the Wii average. Clearly, the average gamer doesn't have the endurance necessary for long-term waggling.Wii also ranked the lowest in average days used over the course of the study, with users only partaking an average of 5 days (so much for that Wii Fit vow). The PS3 ranked second place, with users spending an average of 6.8 days days, which leaves us with Xbox 360 -- the top dog in this category -- with an average of 7.1 days.Lastly, Nielsen tracked the daily average number of sessions, and, again, Wii was last with 1.78 sessions, whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 had much higher averages of 2.15 and 2.74 sessions, respectively. So, how would you rank your console usage?Source - Nielsen report (PDF) [via Edge]Permalink | Email this | Comments

Nintendo of Europe reveals April-June WiiWare/DSiWare releases, including Cave Story

As mentioned in the announcement of Squibs Arcade, Nintendo of Europe is holding a WiiWare (and DSiWare) media summit this week. During the event, Nintendo released a list of WiiWare and DSiWare games planned for release between April and June. On WiiWare, the biggest news is Cave Story! Even though we knew it was scheduled for release in April or May, seeing more confirmation of that (for more regions) is great! Swords & Soldiers is also on the way. In addition, there are also a few games we haven't heard much (or anything) about. Each game has a brief description in Nintendo's announcement.

  • Bonsai Barber
  • Cave Story
  • ColorZ
  • Crystal Defenders R1
  • Icarian: Kindred Spirits
  • LIT
  • Overturn: Mecha Wars
  • Robocalypse: Beaver Defense
  • Spaceball: Revolution
  • Squibs Arcade
  • Swords & Soldiers
  • Water Warfare

In DSiWare, the most exciting title (to us) is Nintendo's Art Style: PiCOPiCT, a retro-Nintendo-themed puzzler with reinterpreted NES music by YMCK.

  • A Little Bit of... Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: Maths Edition
  • Art Style: PICOPICT
  • Mighty Flip Champs!
  • Mixed Messages
  • Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity
  • Real Football 2009

Fatal Frame IV unlikely to scare up American release

Since first whispered eerily in our ears, we've been eager to have our pants scared off by the Tecmo/Grasshopper Manufacture collaboration, Fatal Frame IV. Now it seems like our slacks will be staying firmly buttoned. While Nintendo published the Wii-exclusive in Japan, the company has no intention of making a repeat performance stateside with Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime telling MTV, "We are not the publisher of that title in the Americas."A Tecmo spokesperson put the lens cap on the scary sequel, telling IGN that Nintendo of America still holds the publishing rights, and its decision to not release the game means "the title will not be released in this territory." Read Tecmo's official statement: "As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America." If you could take a picture of our faces right now you'd see our jaws on the floor at bearing witness to Nintendo's own unique brand of horror.Source: Fatal Frame Never Coming to America?Source: Reggie Talks Wii: Not Paying For Exclusives, Avoiding The Japan Wii SlumpPermalink | Email this | Comments

Iwata: Nintendo considering Wii to DS video-on-demand

During an interview with the Wall Street Journal (registration required), Nintendo president Satoru Iwata hinted that the company's Wii no Ma Channel, intended to bring video-on-demand to its latest console, may be extended to allow video content transfers to Nintendo DS for viewing on-the-go. "If the Wii and the DS are connected, it should be possible to download video through the Wii and take it with you on the DS," Iwata told the Journal, explaining that, "When the service begins, you'll see how we're going to do it differently in a Nintendo-like way. There are a lot of on-demand video services, so there's no reason to do the same thing, so we're going to do something different."Iwata also indicated an overseas version of the service could happen, saying, "We'll start the service in Japan, and if it does well, we'd like to take it overseas."[Via Nintendo Everything]

Squibs Arcade brings back the 'fun' of LCD handhelds

European publisher Alten8 has announced one of the weirdest WiiWare titles yet -- which is saying a lot on the platform that features Major League Eating: The Game, Target Toss Pro: Bags and Pong Toss: Frat Party Games. Squibs Arcade isn't just a collection of Game & Watch/Tiger LCD-style games, it's a collection of fake LCD games, designed as boiled-down parodies of modern favorites. In the five released screenshots, we can see Gun Cogs, based on Gears Of War, as well as Crowd Wader, Jack a Motor, We're Fat, and Cardboard Axel Mush (Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, Wii Fit, and Metal Gear Solid, respectively). The collection will also include games called Clown, Button Basher, Fantasy Turn Base, Call of Honour, Lots of Levelling, and Regret the Fist. Alten8 will release Squibs Arcade in Europe in Q2, and will show the title at this week's WiiWare Media Summit in Frankfurt, Germany. In related news, there's a WiiWare Media Summit this week in Frankfurt, Germany! The press release also mentions that Luc Bernard's Eternity's Child is still on the way, within "the next few months."

DSitality: Tearing down a Nintendo DSi

Some of us looked forward to the Nintendo DSi's release for the new DSiWare, others for the improved tech. But, for the folks at iFixit, it was more about tearing the thing apart. Not only do they provide a picture-by-picture teardown of the Nintendo DSi, but they also compare its guts to that of its predecessor, the DS Lite. Sure, we know all about what's under the hood, but there's a certain charm to looking directly at internal components. Just make sure the kids are tucked in. This is grown folks linkage.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
