GameFly's most requested games in 2008

Last night GameFly sent over a list of the service's most requested games, based on people's Q adds, during 2008. Although GameFly's data was likely a component in Rentrak's rental market data, the online rental service's list was quite disparate.GameFly's Top 3:

  1. Assassin's Creed - PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS
  2. Army of Two - PS3, Xbox 360
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3, Xbox 360

GameFly's complete top ten list is quite interesting. Whether it's the client demographic or some other factor, a definite takeaway is the lack of Wii titles making the cut. Check out the full list after the break.

EA invites Wii owners to a Boom Blox Bash Party this spring

EA has revealed the known -- but never officially announced -- sequel to Boom Blox for Wii. According to the press release, EA's Boom Blox Bash Party will be out this spring, featuring 400 new levels and a greater emphasis on multiplayer -- as evidenced by the "Party" in the title. (As well as the "Bash" -- which is a kind of party, we believe.)"Boom Blox Bash Party is a wild social gaming experience," said Steven Spielberg, who is involved in the new game in whatever nebulous capacity in which he was involved in the first title. "We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original Boom Blox together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with Boom Blox Bash Party."Even more exciting, BBBP now has online integration for its level editor, allowing players to share their destructible Mario sprites with the community at large. EA will offer its own downloadable levels as well.

Legacy of Ys: Books I & II delayed, soundtrack bundled

The hike up to Darm Tower is taking longer than expected. Atlus has bumped the release of Legacy of Ys: Books I & II for the Nintendo DS back two weeks from its originally announced February 10 ship date. Now set for release on February 24, the publisher notes that the entire first printing of the upcoming RPG will now come packaged with the game's soundtrack CD, originally intended just for those who reserved the game. The bundling is part of a "fan appreciation" effort called Atlus Spoils, which according to Atlus is intended to "give a little extra something to the company's faithful followers." The announcement follows yesterday's reveal of Devil Summoner 2, which will come stuffed with a free Raiho plushie. Now here, take this hankie and wipe those silver tears from your eyes.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Mercs on Virtual Console in North America soon, Twinbee, Bomberman '94 in Australia

Capcom announced today via their official blog that Mercs, the Sega Genesis sequel to Commando, will be available "soon" on the Virtual Console in North America. It's changing the title to Wolf of the Battlefield: Mercs, which both matches the Japanese title for the game and makes the connection more explicit between this game and Capcom's XBLA/PSN release, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. The name change, as implied by Capcom's Seth Killian, has less to do with branding and more to do with the Mercenaries series: "Let this be a lesson kids, register your IPs!"In other Virtual Console news, the OFLC ratings board has revealed that Konami's Twinbee and Hudson's Bomberman '94 could show up on the VC soon. Twinbee for the Famicom never left Japan, though we got a sequel, Stinger.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Is Islam the light for DS Baby Pals? [update]

Surprise! Introducing our DS and Wii tabs

You know what happens when you grow too quickly? Growing pains. With most of those nasty growing pains under control - after Monday night's relaunch of Joystiq, and rebranding of the DS and Wii Fanboy sites - we're happy to let you know that you can now filter Joystiq Nintendo for Wii or DS.How does one do it? Easy, when you see a story on Joystiq Nintendo, you'll notice it will either have a Wii tab or a DS tab (sometimes both). All you have to do is click on that tab and you'll get everything sorted for that particular platform. Only want DS news? Well, then go ahead and bookmark this link. Only want the Wii stuff? Then bookmark this link. You can subscribe to either of those links in your favorite RSS reader and absorb the site that way as well. It's that easy. And if you don't want to be bothered with scrolling down the page, you'll notice the top now has a Wii and DS tab next to the Nintendo tab. Progress, ain't it grand? When you're viewing the front page, you'll see these tabs sprinkled throughout posts; however, when you're sorting by each platform tag (DS or Wii), then you won't see those tabs (we think that makes sense). Let us know what you think in the comments below or head past the break for a guide on using the new tabs, if all of this still seems a bit over your head.

Atlus leaks: Devil Survivor, Knights in the Nightmare, more

Okay, so we already knew about Atlus's ridiculous surge of DS releases in the first quarter of this year, thanks to the ESRB and, later, Atlus. But what about Q2? In a discovery that will no doubt exasperate Atlus's PR staff, a Siliconera reader found five more unannounced Atlus games on Amazon.ca, all with projected release dates between April and June. The four new DS games are: Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier, Sting's Knights in the Nightmare and Dokapon Journey, and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, known as Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor in Japan. The one PSP release in the store's database is Crimson Gem Saga, which is known as Garnet Chronicle in Japan and Astonishia Story 2 in Korea. The bad news is that all we have to go on is Siliconera's word and this image. The listings have all been pulled if they were there.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

NPD: Console exclusives performed with mixed results in '08

According to the NPD, a good exclusive does not necessarily equal good sales. The group has collected data for 2008's exclusives on each platform and, well, there have been some under-performers. On the Xbox 360 side, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts was a disappointment, selling only 140,000 units. The other exclusive on Microsoft's console, Fable 2 (Joystiq's GOTY), was more of your traditional success story with a respectable 1.2 million copies sold. And what about the industry-leading PS3? We already know MGS4 sold extremely well, but the same cannot be said (yet) for LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, both of which seemed to perform lower than expectations; LBP sold 611,000 copies in North America while R2 unloaded 600,000 units. As for Nintendo, well ... it won. It always does. Last we heard, Nintendo stopped making games and was in the process of building a Kirby-shaped Death Star to orbit the planet.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Kate Winslet loves to play Wii with the kids

When she's not busy falling in love with Jack Black or being in another Leonardo DiCaprio movie (when's our chance?) Kate Winslet likes to school chumps her kids in Wii Sports. At least, that's what she recently told the celebrity watchers at E! during the SAG awards. Despite the presence of the more popular bowling minigame, Kate is a big fan of the tennis and boxing bits, calling the overall package "fantastic." Just keep an eye on your kids and pets, Kate. We don't want to read a sad story about your dog or anything.[Via What They Play]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

This Nintendo jacket is the perfect gift for no one

Listen, we try not to take a hard line against any product on Joystiq. After all, everyone's got to make a living, especially in these troubled economic times. But we have to speak up against the above garment, now available from 80stees.com.To sell a jacket emblazoned with the words "Muggers: Please Kick the Ever-Loving Crap Out of Me and Steal All My Money Because These Sleeves Aren't Hiding Anything But Bones and Translucent Skin" seems irresponsible. But to charge $200 for it? Shameful.[Via Engadget]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
