Koji Igarashi and Simon Belmont team up to sell Castlevania Judgment

Rest assured: when we reviewed Konami's Castlevania Judgment, we did so completely free of influence from external factors like whip-wielding producers in cowboy hats or vampire hunter cosplayers. Had there been somebody in our office whipping at us and cosplaying at us, we'd like to think the score would have remained firm, but we have yet to be tested in such a way to find out. Mostly we'd have been happy to suddenly have an office! That's right, the time-altering ability of Aeon brought Simon Belmont into the modern age, specifically the day of Castlevania Judgment's Japanese release. The legendary vampire hunter joined forces with Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi to bother Dengeki staffers, with a truly amusing set of photos as a result. Will it sell Castlevania? No idea.We thought there was no way to make the outfits Takeshi Obata designed for the characters look any more ridiculous, but Konami found a way: putting them on real people.

YouTube caters to Wii users with YouTube for Television

YouTube has unleashed its beta for YouTube for Television, a more Wii-friendly version of the popular video site. BBFC grants MadWorld '18' rating, no cuts made

Despite the Daily Mail's best attempts to whip up a fuss, the BBFC has granted MadWorld an "18" certificate in the UK. It is the eighth Wii game to receive the rating (see the full list after the jump), and was passed with -- yay! -- no cuts whatsoever. Sega is likely to face a bigger obstacle when it comes to getting the game rated elsewhere, and it seems to realize this. MadWorld won't even be released in Germany or Japan, while Australia's notoriously conservative OFLC may take some convincing.Elsewhere in MadWorld, uh, world, IGN has posted one of the first hands-on previews, including a full breakdown of the controls. The Nunchuk will be used to make protagonist Jack move and jump (with Z), the C button centers the camera behind Jack, punching people in the face is done with A, while the chainsaw attacks are on the B trigger. Holding A lets you pick people up, which is where you can perform special moves by waggling.

Sonic and the Black Knight's Wi-Fi modes explained

This pretty sweet Sonic and the Black Knight boxart emerged last month, inadvertently revealing that Sega had a whole new "Storybook Series" planned for Sonic. It also sported the Nintendo Wi-Fi logo, but the exact nature of the game's online mode wasn't clear -- until now.For those of you hoping for online sword duels: sorry, that's not happening. Siliconera's Spencer discovered a listing for the game on the site of Japanese retailer Rakuten which revealed Wi-Fi play would consist of trading items (Black Knight has 200+ items for you to hunt down) and ... some kind of ranking system. As it stands, you'll have to wait a bit longer for your chance to impale fellow Wii owners on the pointy end of Excalibur.

Wii owners exceed 14 million in Europe

14.2 million people across Europe own a Wii, according to Nintendo of Europe. Over the course of 2008, Nintendo managed to unload 8.3 million Wii consoles which, when compared to 2007 sales figures, is a 58% rise in sales. Not too shabby, when you consider the console suffered from supply issues throughout the year.Nintendo set a European record for annual sales for home consoles. Breaking it down even more, Nintendo managed to sell 2.9 million alone in 2008 in the UK, bringing the total there to 4.9 million. We're waiting on official word from Nintendo on worldwide sales figures, but it's expected to be more than 40 million. What's next for Nintendo? Moving their corporate HQ into a volcano and fighting superheroes? They've certainly got amounts of money only Supervillains ever see ...

Rumor: Metroid Prime remake in Japan February 12?

According to Gamekyo, the Wii de Asobu/New Play Control remake of Retro Studios' Metroid Prime has been scheduled for release in Japan on February 12. We're not sure where they got that date, but it seems reasonable enough, given the biweekly releases so far in the series of Gamecube updates. While it will be interesting to see how the Japanese Wii audience reacts to Prime, this is most relevant to gamers outside of Japan due to the fact that the Pikmin and Mario Tennis remakes are expected to be out in North America and Europe in February and March, very soon after the releases of those two games in Japan. This means that we could possibly see Metroid Prime sometime in the first half of this year -- although Donkey Kong Jungle Beat came out in Japan before either of those others, and we haven't seen that one yet.

Sega: 'Let's trademark an embarrassing title'

Sega registered a trademark in November that seems to suggest that they'll continue publishing more "Let's" games from Prope -- and also that they're either very mischievous or totally oblivious. The company registered the name "Toy-Lets" for use in video games.Toy-Lets.Okay, it's a funny title. But what's even funnier is that Sega apparently plans to spend money to produce and distribute something under that name. We'd love to see how this could turn out to be a good decision. Of course, it wouldn't be the first use of the word "Toilet" in a game title: Media Vision's Toilet Kids for the PC Engine didn't even make a funny pun out of the word.
