Rock Band 2 wastin' away again in DLC-taville

In one of the most weirdly eclectic DLC updates imaginable, Harmonix has added six new Rock Band 2 tracks to the in-game music store, from four artists: Nine Inch Nails, The Clash, The Ramones, and ... Jimmy Buffett. The full track listing is available after the break, with YouTube links for each. All of these songs are already available on the other consoles' download services, having been released in three pairs throughout late 2007 and 2008. It's basically just a random assortment of stuff from the store. But if you just have Rock Band 2 on the Wii, it's New To You! And we would never complain about an opportunity to listen to "March of the Pigs."

Cammie Dunaway welcomes new Wii owners

In an open letter posted on Kotaku as part of their series of "Welcome to the Family" letters, Cammie Dunaway gave one of the lengthiest statements we've seen from the recently-hired executive vice president of sales and marketing. The letter is directed at all the new Wii owners who have joined the fold since the holidays, and lays out the attractive features of the Wii in a manner appropriate for a new gamer. Although fundamentally, we're not sure how many expanded audience members are reading gaming blogs. It's quite interesting to see what Nintendo is pitching to new gamers these days -- downloadable games are given a big push (World of Goo is now enough of a genuine hit to be the face of WiiWare, apparently!), as is Mario Kart Wii. Dunaway classifies the massively popular Mario Kart Wii as a "bridge game" that "really leads in two directions: not just from simple-to-more-involving, but also acting like a link between new gamers and veteran ones."

Free World of Goo soundtrack gently caresses your ears

World of Goo didn't only look and play wonderfully -- we also fell in love with how it sounded. The cute squealing of gooballs was backed by one of the most varied and memorable soundtracks of 2008.And now, it can be all yours! 2D Boy's Kyle Gabler spent a weekend compiling and remastering several of the game's marvellous tracks "like they do to Snow White DVDs," and has put it up for grabs here (be warned: at the time of writing, the site is flitting on and offline). We're yet to download and listen to our copy, but we suspect it is the sweetest-sounding 85MB of anything we download this year.

Reminder: Castlevania Judgment still up for grabs

Time is running out. Through the mist, Dracula's castle begins to emerge. You have precious little time if you're to arm yourself against the forces of darkness with our copy of Castlevania Judgment. Before you take on the castle, see our original contest post to arm up with whips and stakes and hearts and maybe, just maybe, a free game.

Toki Tori devs launch blog, tease news

Toki Tori developer Two Tribes (who also made Rubik's World -- we had no idea!) sent out a press release announcing the refresh of their official development blog, to appear simultaneously on their website and IGN. They've also begun posting new videos of the game on their own YouTube channel, the first of which appears above. But as interesting as ego-boosting videos and rejected concept art is (really!), the most intriguing statement is included in the press release: "Stay tuned, because this is just the beginning. We will be bringing you more blog entries and exciting Toki Tori news in the coming weeks!" Toki Tori news, you say? Could WiiWare's first sequel (to a WiiWare game) be on the way?[Via GamesIndustry.biz]

Peter Moore not so ignorant about World of Goo anymore

If you're unfamiliar with the story of 2D Boy, they left the corporate juggernaut EA, founded their own company and pretty much made one of the best games EVAR, World of Goo. Then Peter Moore saw it on some list and really didn't know what it was. Tunes change, however.Peter recently gave the game's demo a whirl and came away impressed. He found "a ton to admire" and said it was "full of impressive physics that make for an elegant and somewhat addictive experience." He promises more on his experience with the game later, so that's all he said for now.If you're interested in more from EA, like NASCAR Kart Racing, he goes on about it later in his blog post. Check out the full post here.

Death comes swiftly for enemies in Tenchu: Shadow Assassins

A new video for that Tenchu game has hit the nets and it again focuses on Rikimaru. Instead of being boring cutscenes, however, this latest trailer gets down to what we really want to see: a badass ninja killing dudes. You know, real ultimate power and all of that. Head past the break to watch the video.

New Play Control! High Price Tag!

Nintendo is looking to cash in with their line of GameCube-enhanced-for-Wii games, Play on Wii. Of course, in the UK and North America it's called New Play Control!, as we've already reported. So how much will these games fetch?Well, Pikmin is set for a February 6th release, with Mario Power Tennis releasing on March 6th, and each title has a suggested price of £39.99, according to retailers. Nintendo has stepped in to say that their recommended price is £29.99, but it would seem that retailers aren't following that guideline. Should these games go for full price, even if they've got reworked controls taking advantage of the Wii's unique capabilities?

Deadly Creatures infest North America February 9

THQ has (finally) announced what we hope is the real North American release date for Rainbow Studios' action-adventure game Deadly Creatures. The game, which stars a scorpion and a tarantula, and features Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper in supporting roles, will be on store shelves February 9. Probably. At this point, no matter when it actually shows up, we'll be surprised to see it in the real world!Strange that THQ picked a release date within just a few weeks (or the same day, in some cases) of Dead Rising, Onechanbara, Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, Rygar, House of the Dead: Overkill and basically every other action game ever.

VC Tuesday: Japan celebrates Super Smash Bros. Day

The day is finally here! Well, not here here. But there are people in the world playing vintage Super Smash Bros. on their Wiis right now, and we declare that to be boss. They're paying 1,200 Wii Points for the privilege, but Japanese Wii owners have probably forgotten how much Nintendo 64 games are supposed to cost on the Virtual Console anyway.Poor Champion Wrestler is doomed. This just isn't the week for another 4-player competitive fighting game starring at least one vintage game character (Rastan Saga's title character, in the Ultimate Warrior-esque guise of "Miracle Rastan").

There's no competition between the VC and WiiWare this week. Here's Japan's WiiWare lineup:

  • Nothing (Just Play Smash Bros., Seriously)
