First DiRT 2 media lacks polish

When people criticize the Wii, the graphics are usually one of the first things mentioned. Codemasters' DiRT 2 is sure to bring about cries of "N64!" and other such malarkey, because, well, it looks bad. We'd like to be more diplomatic, but, yeah, you can see it in the trailer above and in the screens in the gallery below. Bad, right?Permalink | Email this | Comments

VC/WiiWare Tuesday: That's Galactic Dancin'

This week, Japan gets two arcade games -- both of which have titles starting with the letter G, and both of which are already available on Virtual Console as ports. Galaga '88, Namco's cute, brightly colored, fireworks-filled sequel to Galaga, is definitely something we'd consider double-dipping for. Both the arcade version and the TG16 port (Galaga '90) are great, and the port includes a bit of extra content. And is it okay to like Golden Axe? Because we like Golden Axe.On the WiiWare front, Hudson launches its second downloadable FPS for the Wii. Unfortunately, it's the dire-looking Water Warfare.Virtual Console:

Uncharted 2 crowned Best of E3 in Game Critics Awards

The winners of the annual Best of E3 Game Critics Awards have been announced, with Uncharted 2 taking home the gold as "Best of Show." Not only that, but the game was also awarded "Best Console Game" and "Best Action/Adventure Game," taking the lead with three wins. Check out the trailer above (yes, again) for a good indication of why Uncharted 2 was handed the grand prize. Meanwhile, Scribblenauts also got the recognition it deserved, coming in second with two awards for "Best Original Game" and "Best Handheld Game." No other games received multiple awards, though Valve recaptured the "Best Online Multiplayer" award with Left 4 Dead 2 a year after its predecessor did the same in 2008. While EA's Brütal Legend is nowhere to be seen in the list of winners, EA did take home more wins than any other publisher (three, if you're curious). And while the PS3-exclusive Uncharted 2 took top honors, from a console perspective the Xbox 360 edged out the PS3 by a single win, at eight versus seven. Check out the full list of winners after the break and, for more granular stats, check out the breakdowns at the Game Critics Awards website.

UK: Buy LEGO Battles, get a ticket to LEGOLAND

Attention UK readers, Warner Bros. is running an interesting promotion for its DS RTS title, LEGO Battles, which is set to release in the region next week. MCV reports that the game will include vouchers for free entry into LEGOLAND Windsor. Specifically, the vouchers allow a child to enter the park for every paying adult. In other words, full grown adults will still have to pay full admission regardless, but the kids can come along for free (so long as you bring enough adults along). So, all you adult gamers won't be getting a free pass. Of course, being full grown adults, you'd never play something as silly as LEGO Battles, would you? Of course not. Neither would we. Never. We've contacted Warner Bros. to see if this promotion will be making it to North America as well. Considering it's already been released in North America -- and we haven't heard any full-grown children screaming with glee -- we're not holding our breath.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

OMG: Shia LaBeouf totally 'not into' the Wii

During an interview with Big Download last week, the young side of beef Shia LaBeouf (see what we did there?) took time from his busy career playing Indiana Jones' son to troll the Nintendo Wii as hard (and unnecessarily) as so many Joystiq comments we've read in the past. "I don't mess with the Wii, to be honest with you ... It's kind of an amateur console ... I'm not into the Wii thing," he told BD, when asked about the Wii version of upcoming movie tie-in game, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Truth be told, the actor tries to disassociate himself with those who own Wii consoles, continuing, "This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with: Ask them if they have a Wii -- if they say yes, get the f*** out of there." Harsh words, Mr. LaBeouf! While we're inclined to start flapping our gums about the actor's films being defilements of our childhoods and how they placate to a more mainstream crowd -- like a certain console he feels so vehemently about -- we'll just hold our tongues on that. This time, LaBeouf. This time.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

New Tales of Graces trailer features cute characters, a lonely world

If you've been keeping score at home you'd know we are pretty excited for Tales of Graces and its spider-legged tanks. Like recent entries in the famed Tales of franchise, the upcoming Wii-exclusive JRPG showcases a simple and colorful art style, but based on the game's second trailer we can't help but notice the world looks suspiciously barren. Could the limited NPCs be a story element? Perhaps the spider-legged tanks are to blame! Our actual guess? Everyone in the world is away to training camp, preparing for the upcoming brawl that is Tales of VS. Check out the full trailer for Tales of Graces after the break.[Via GoNintendo]

Guitar Hero 5 box art revealed (find the guitar!) [update]

It's not like the previous Guitar Hero boxes set the world on fire, but the recently revealed box art for Guitar Hero 5 is ... well it's definitely different. At least the previous boxes had, you know, guitars on them. As one Joystiq blogger put it, the Guitar Hero 5 art looks more suited to an expansion or a DLC voucher than it does to a full release. Still, we suppose we can appreciate the backstage insider appeal it exudes. Besides, it's not like there are many people left that are unfamiliar with the title at this point.See the full monty after the break.Update: It looks like there is a guitar on the box. See if you can find it!

VC in Brief: SimEarth (TG16)

SimEarth: The Living Planet (TG16 CD-ROM, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)We say: Best played on PC
This week's release is an oldie, but a goodie: SimEarth: The Living Planet for the TurboGrafx-16. It's been a long time since I played this game, and it's still as fun as I remember it. It's much better on the PC (way better controls), but, if this is your only way to play the game, I'd suggest you check it out.
Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks.Permalink | Email this | Comments
