Wii System Update 4.2 now live

Just like the previous Wii System Update, 4.2 offers little in the way of surprises or features and mainly provides "behind-the-scene fixes," designed to "improve the overall system performance." The update also removes unauthorized save data (it wouldn't be a real update otherwise!), so if you've been using things like the Homebrew channel, expect to be annoyed for the few minutes it takes the community to implement a workaround.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Watch Frank West chop his Tatsunoko vs. Capcom opponents 'til they drop

There are some things we all know about Frank West. He's covered wars (y'know), enjoys the potent effects of a well-blended smoothie and, with a mean 5 o'clock shadow, looks a great deal like Niko Belic. But, what you may not know is that despite lacking an entire mall's worth of weaponry, the dude is still a pretty solid fighter. Even though we've already put together some words detailing the man's moves in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, it's always nice to actually see that thing we talked about in motion. So, head past the break for a gameplay video of Capcom's Seth Killian demonstrating West's moves for GameSpot. [Via Capcom-Unity]

VC in Brief: Altered Beast (VC Arcade)

Altered Beast (Sega 1 - 2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)We say: Great game, but you can find it for less It's not that the VC Arcade version of Altered Beast is bad or anything -- in fact, it's the complete opposite, but for such an old game, there are less costly ways to enjoy it. If you have a PS2, there's a Sega Genesis Collection that's a more financially responsible way to play. If you've only got the Wii and have never played this, though, it might be worth your double sawbuck. Check out the video above and decide.
Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks.Permalink | Email this | Comments

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Nintendo gives you a pile of trash

If you've been doing your due diligence with Animal Crossing: City Folk, know that Nintendo has a full month of activities ahead for October. The first item on the agenda is giving you a nice pile of trash. No, seriously, if you connect your Wii to the internet, you can get a letter from Nintendo with a free pile of leaves attached. It should go wonderfully with that trashcan you have sitting in your house's corner. Head past the break for the rest of this week's content on the Nintendo Channel.

NintendoWare Weekly: Dragon Quest Wars, Arkanoid Plus, Altered Beast

Welcome to another Monday, a day when most of us with jobs or school must go back to that place we just love to spend most of our time each week. That is, unless you're one of the lucky few who just sit around waiting for the Wii and DSi shops to update.

If you fall into the latter group, we'd just like to thank you for waking up this early to check out what's available for download today on the Wii and DSi. It's nice of you to do so considering you don't have any obligation to be up before noon. Boy, that must be nice. So head past the break and see what's available already!

Korg DS-10 recreates Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'

We've long been fans of the impressive capabilities of Korg DS-10 -- not just for its ability to rickroll -- and now that appreciation has soared to new heights courtesy of Denkitribe. The talented YouTube user has contributed a video of Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" recreated in the music suite program. Mind you, this isn't just the beats, either -- the DSi actually sings the song. It's pretty nifty, if we may say so ourselves, so head past the break and check it out![Via Engadget]

Halo 3: ODST drops into UK's top sales spot

Halo 3: ODST had the type of UK launch one would expect from a Bungie Halo game. According to Chart Track, 64 percent of ODST's sales were recorded in the first 24 hours after launch last Tuesday, September 22, helping to rank the game twelfth on the list of all-time week one sell-throughs (for a single format). For context, Master Chief's previous outing, Halo 3, rocketed to the fourth highest first week sell-through upon its release, trailing only GTA: San Andreas for PS2, Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360, and -- surprise, surprise -- GTA IV for PS3. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (the Diabolical Box in the States) premiered at the number two spot last week, with prior week's top performer, Need for Speed: Shift, tapping the brakes down to third.
