Cut Chemist and J.Period adding three mixes to DJ Hero's ... mix

Comprising approximately 3.22% of DJ Hero's 93-song list of tracks, Cut Chemist and J.Period were announced today as joining the enormous list of artists contributing to the game. According to an emailed press release from Activision, J.Period will be creating two "exclusive" new mixes for the game, Q-Tip's "Good Thang" vs. Billy Squier's "Big Beat" (as seen above) and Gang Starr's "Just to Get a Rep" vs. Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones, Part 2." Elusively, Activision says Cut Chemist will be offering "a mix featuring unreleased music from one of the biggest bands in the world." The publisher didn't offer word on whether or not that's a confirmation of the JoBro "Burnin' up" vs. Tupac's "All Eyez on Me" mash-up we've been hoping for, unfortunately.

Get some Pooyoos all over your Wii

What is it with WiiWare games and deceptive titles? Despite the somewhat lurid name given to its titular creatures, Learning with the Pooyoos is anything but. We have no idea why these critters are called Pooyoos, especially considering they appear to be just cutesy-fied animals. As the title implies, Learning with the Pooyoos is geared toward children, and aims to teach them about things like shapes and colors.

Its greatest contribution, however, is undoubtedly the theme song, which has got to be the record holder for most instances of the word "poo" in a children's song. Enjoy the distilled madness in the trailer above. Learning with the Pooyoos should hit WiiWare in the UK on September 18.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Ears

Sega and Red Entertainment's Sakura Wars series has enjoyed great popularity in Japan (witness the Sakura Wars Dreamcast system), but despite that success, it's never been localized. It seemed that non-importers would never get to try the long-running strategy RPG series, until NIS America announced plans to localize Sakura Wars V as Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love on Wii and PS2.It is the novelty of a Sakura Wars game in America, along with the appeal of a mech game set in an alternate 1920s NYC, that sustained us through this trailer (after the break), despite the voice acting. Don't worry, the game will include both English and Japanese!

Rumor: Target circular advertises $199 Wii

The image above, posted by Kotaku, appears to be a Target ad for the week of September 27, featuring a $50 price drop on Wii hardware. This ad would further corroborate the Toys R Us ad we saw that also showed the same price cut -- if we knew either ad was real. Us? We're hoping for a drastic price cut on cameras so tipsters can get better pictures of these advance ads.The DVD at the right side of the Target ad is Monsters vs. Aliens, which comes out on September 29. That at least shows that if this ad is a fake, it's a somewhat clever one. As always, we're not going to take this as confirmation of a price drop, but we will take it as confirmation that it would be smart to wait a couple of weeks before going to buy a Wii.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Buy Naruto Shippuden 3, get a DVD or a thumb ring

Presumably, some people who like to play Naruto also enjoy watching Naruto. That's the idea behind the GameStop-exclusive limited edition release of Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 for Wii, which will include a DVD of Naruto Shippuden The Movie.Maybe you like to play Naruto and dress like Naruto characters, but for some reason you don't feel like watching it? GameStop and Tomy also have something lined up for your rather improbable tastes. Pre-ordering the standard edition of the game will get you an Akatsuki ring as worn by Sasori. This bundle is the only way to get an 'official' version of this ring. Which means that somebody is going to buy both of these sets!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Review: Monster Hunter 3 (Ramen)

No, this is not a hands-on preview of the upcoming US release of Monster Hunter 3. (You'll have to wait until next year for that!) Nor is this a review of the Japanese release. (You can, instead, read our hands-on preview from TGS.) This is the next best thing: a review of the limited edition Monster Hunter 3 ramen -- or "hunta-men" as the packaging states.Available for 200 yen (about $2.20), this packaged instant ramen is surprisingly good, featuring a hearty meaty taste and slight spicy kick. There are even dried meat pieces floating in the soup. While it may actually be beef, we're going to pretend it's dragon meat, because that's what a real monster hunter would eat, right?

Bon Jovi turned down inclusion in Guitar Hero 5, supports Love

Even though his songs have landed in music games far and wide, Jon Bon Jovi said in a recent interview that he turned down Activision's offer to be included as a playable character in Guitar Hero 5. "They [Activision] wanted me to be on that game and I just passed," Bon Jovi told the BBC. "To hear someone else's voice coming out of a cartoon version of me? I don't know," he added, siding with Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love, and others tied to the Nirvana estate, against the use of Cobain's likeness in GH5. Bon Jovi explained that no one at Activision "even broached the subject with me that I would be singing other people's stuff ... I don't know how I would have reacted to that." In the meantime, Activision has retorted that Love did evidently sign a contract -- but according to Bon Jovi's statements, it appears as though she may have not reacted to the fine print.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Wii's Call of Duty 4 now dubbed 'Modern Warfare: Reflex'

Activision: Yeah, we think we're going to call the Wii game just "Modern Warfare," so people know it's the same game you guys made a couple of years ago.

Infinity Ward: ... Huh. Do you realize that we have an inexhaustible amount of cash, a scary amount of weaponry knowledge, a nigh limitless supply of night vision goggles and, as of November 11th, all the free time in the world?

Acti: ... You know, we talked it over --

IW: What, just right now?

Acti: Yeah, yeah, just right now, just this second. And we decided we should call it Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex, just so there's no confusion.

IW: Well, if you're sure.
Fin.

Review: Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story doesn't put on airs about itself. Up until now, the series has been a collection of chuckle-filled titles, with light action and RPG elements designed to make the game accessible to just about everyone -- and this latest game is no different. It's plain and direct in what it wants to be, but it's set apart from its predecessors in a deepening of the core aspects of the series.
