Hudson announces Bomberman Anytime for DSiWare

Nintendo's DSiWare platform is set to become a bit more combustible later this fall -- according to AndriaSang, the Japanese release list in the latest edition of Famitsu reveals an October launch for Itsudemo Bomberman (which translates to Bomberman Anytime) on the handheld's download service. The magazine also lists a price of 500 DSi Points ($5) for the portable title.

Hudson hasn't taken the trouble of actually announcing Itsudemo Bomberman yet -- regardless, we've contacted them to see what, if any, details we can surmise about the game.

[Thanks, Fernando.]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

ESRB rates Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth for Wii

It's been over a year since we last heard rumors of a re-Vamped Castlevania installment on the WiiWare service -- now, a new ESRB listing has rekindled the flames of conjecture. The board recently gave a Teen rating to Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth for the Wii -- as you may have noticed, it shares the suffix applied to the similarly renovated Gradius ReBirth and Contra ReBirth, both of which surfaced on Nintendo's download platform this year.

According to the ESRB rating, the game will finally deliver the "side-scrolling action" which classic 'Vania fans have been clamoring for. If it's based off the Game Boy title of the same name, our only request is that they smooth out the game's unscalable difficulty curve. To this day, we're not sure that game has a second level.

Reminder: Early Scribblenauts launch today at Nintendo World NYC

Friendly reminder for Scribble-natics in the tri-state region: the Nintendo World store will begin selling Scribblenauts today at 11AM as part of a special early launch. For those who don't want to wait until their retailer of choice gets the game sometime this week, now is the time to get on the LIRR, Metro-North, MTA, ferry or paddle boat and head on over to Rockefeller Plaza. The 5th Cell team should be on hand for autographs (hopefully for longer than an hour) and demos of the game. Scribblenauts will allegedly only be sold between 11AM-2PM, so take that into consideration. If you're reading this post from the line at Nintendo World, feel free to let us know how long the queue is in the comments.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Iggy Pop goes shirtless for Lego Rock Band

We can't even begin to thank Harmonix for giving us a shirtless version of Iggy Pop that we're not completely revolted by. The guy's really been put through his paces over the years, so it seems only deserving that he should be all gussied up by Lego for upcoming rhythm/music game, Lego Rock Band. Jeux Video discovered the images, as well as a bit of gameplay with the iconic Stooges frontman. Unfortunately, the one major problem with licensing your likeness to a Lego game persists: You just look like a generic Lego dude! Is that Iggy Pop above? Sure, why not! People that could also be include, but are not limited to, certain versions of Eric Stoltz, and a muscle-bound Edgar Winter. [Via VG247]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

There are 22,802 words in Scribblenauts

Some scurrilous vagabond somehow managed to get their hands on the supposed complete dictionary from 5th Cell's upcoming everything generator, Scribblenauts. We sincerely urge you not to go through the illicitly obtained list, looking for particular nouns of interest and internet memes -- why not save that fun for the actual game? However, everyone should absorb the final tally of words present in the final build of the game: 22,802.

Also, if the list is legit, then "Plumbob" finally made it into the game -- as per our suggestion from E3. As we see it, we're owed around 0.00005 percent of Scribblenauts' total profits. We'll be waiting on the check, 5th Cell.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Aardman using Flipnote Studio to create short holiday films

Nintendo has just announced a very cool promotion for its free DSiWare animation app Flipnote Studio (which you should really have if you have a DSi -- did we mention it's free?). Tim Ruffle, an animator with Wallace and Gromit creator Aardman Studios, has created twelve Christmas-themed animations using the software, one of which will be made available each week starting September 16.The first animation, "Sandwich Twins," and all following will be viewable through the Flipnote Hatena site, the official portal for viewing and sharing Flipnote animations. Because the Aardman animations aren't up yet, we've embedded a completely unrelated one after the break. Enjoy!

Wii sales have dwiindled by 50% in the past five months

NPD figures show that, compared to the same five-month period last year, sales of the Wii in the US are down a full 50% -- prompting Michael Pachter, games industry analyst at Wedbush Morgan, to look away from his crystal ball long enough to ... analyze the situation. In a note reprinted by IndustryGamers, Pacht-Man -- having finally gotten the PS3 price cut he'd always wanted -- called on Nintendo to drop the cost of Wii, lest its sales slide further."With the core PS3 and Xbox 360 models priced only $50 higher than the Wii, we expect year-over-year sales of Wii hardware to continue their annual declines until the company either changes its bundle or lowers price," Pachter pronounced before concluding, "Wii unit sales are 50% below last year's level over the last five months, and we think that September sales will repeat the pattern."So, Joystiq Biomass, let's say Nintendo doesn't cut the price of the Wii before the holidays. What games and/or hardware would you bundle the system with in order to boost sales -- and help save Ivan?

MadWorld headed to Japan, not being published by Sega

Even though Sega was kinda proud of MadWorld's initial sales performance, the company has decided it won't handle publishing duties for a Japanese version of the game. Famitsu reports that the game will be available in Japan sometime this Winter courtesy of Spike, a company well-versed in violent video games. Hopefully it won't get a crash course in lackluster sales. [Via Go Nintendo]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Watch this Scribblenauts ad with your pterodactyl

How often does a company get TV advertising for games absolutely right? There's usually some aspect of a game's presentation to the general audience that is groan-worthy or embarrassing -- and potentially damaging to the game's perception. That's not the case with the Scribblenauts ad!This live-action ad does a great job of getting the gameplay across, and presenting it in an appealing way. In fact, the events of this commercial would work as a real Scribblenauts level. Bonus points for using the real Scribblenauts art style for the summoned objects.Permalink | Email this | Comments
