Not cloned screens of Clone Wars: Republic Heroes

LucasArts has released the first screens of The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes and we have them all for you to enjoy. The company has released screens for the Xbox 360 -- which we presume will be identical to the PS3 release -- Wii and DS versions, so pick your platform of choice from the galleries below and peruse. All of the versions look pretty decent, though we imagine the stylized look of the game helps in that regard. We've also embedded the release trailer above for those of you who couldn't be bothered to click the link in the announcement post last week.

SaGa 2 remake arrives in Japan this fall

Square Enix has announced a (rough) release period for the remake of SaGa 2, known in the West as Final Fantasy Legend 2. SaGa 2 Hiihou Densetsu: Goddess of Destiny will arrive on the DS in Japan this fall. No announcement has been made for the West, but this seems destined for worldwide release.A new trailer for the RPG reveals the extent of the makeover that the Game Boy classic will receive on the DS, with character art from The World Ends with You co-designer Gen Kobayashi and a new semi-cel-shaded look being incorporated. We're fond of the adorable monster designs and the even more adorable Meka design.[Via Famitsu]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Pearl Jam returns in new 'Rock Band project' with fan-voted set list

Rock Band fans are already familiar with Pearl Jam. The band has twelve tracks (all from the "Ten" album) available in the game, on disc and as DLC. However, it looks as though there's much more Pearl Jam coming down the line. A collaboration between MTV Games, Rhapsody, and the band's premium 10 Club will allow fans to vote on songs for a forthcoming "Rock Band project." This new project will be Rock Band's "first-ever fan voted set list."The release is decidedly vague, and opens the possibility for a brand new game (a la Guitar Hero: Metallica, or The Beatles: Rock Band), a retail track pack (a la Rock Band: AC/DC), or simple DLC. Considering the upcoming "project" will exclusively feature live music, we're leaning on a retail track pack -- who's up for some Rock Band: Pearl Jam?[Thanks, Eric!]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Punch-Out!! Developer's Tournament

Last week, the Nintendo Channel teased a developer tournament for Next Level Games and Nintendo's joint effort, Punch-Out!!, and now the tournament has begun. Two developers from Nintendo and two from Next Level Games are ready to duke it out for a Little Mac boxing glove trophy. We can't tell you who wins, though, as the final match will go down next week. You can watch everything leading up to that match in the video above, however.

UK: Wii Fit still on top, Wolverine holds on to 2nd

The UK is just in love with Wii Fit, as Nintendo's fitness sensation has managed to reign supreme for six weeks in a row. As our English brothers and sisters across the pond might say, "My, that is generally surprising information!" The UK isn't just obsessed with being fit, mind you, as Logan's pre-X-Men exploits in X-Men Origins: Wolverine managed to maintain the second spot, according to Chart-Track. Could we see a repeat performance next week? Based on what is releasing this week, we're inclined to think so.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rock Band Wiikly: Steely Dan, Disturbed, Costello, Replacements, more

This week's Wii Rock Band DLC offering not only delivers the eclectic mix from last week's Rock Band Weekly announcement, but also adds ample variety of its own. With 25 tracks available, across many different genres of music, there's likely something in the list to satiate the DLC track hunger. This is the dim sum of Rock Band Wiikly announcements. Check out the full list after the break.

EEDAR predicts slower April sales, success for Rhythm Heaven

EEDAR's Jesse Divnich released a Retail Sales Preview for April, containing predictions for hardware and software sales results for last month. It starts on a down note, unfortunately, with a projected decline in software sales of 17%. "We believe the weak retail environment is to blame for the year-over-year decrease in [average selling prices]."Music and rhythm games got somewhat of a boost in April, according to Divnich, but only because of heavy discounts. "The biggest sales occurred at Wal-Mart.com with certain Guitar Hero World Tour SKUs being discounted by as much as $90 and Best Buy with a sale that gave away Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for free with the purchase of Guitar Hero: Metallica."The two success stories this month are both DS-related. Hardware sales went up over last year, but only because of a new DS launch -- The DS is predicted to be up 129% year-over-year thanks to the DSi. "Without the DSi, hardware sales would have likely been down by over 27%."In software, Rhythm Heaven's "sales performance has been nothing short of amazing," according to Divnich, with sales of around 154,000 copies. The reason? "Nintendo's ability to leverage an effective marketing campaign using a celebrity (Beyonce)." Hopefully some of the people who bought it because they saw Beyonce playing it will then play it themselves. They might like it!

Telltale talks episodic content on Wii

Telltale Games (Sam & Max, Strong Bad) CEO Dan Connors mentioned in a recent interview that WiiWare "requires the most planning" of the online console marketplaces. In fairness, though, he explains that all the current console makers' online storefronts attempt to make content relatable to the audience. Connors notes that Strong Bad was "perfect" for Nintendo, which we're sure has a little bit to do with the enhanced sales after Nintendo's "storage solution" was introduced. Connors doesn't make any further announcements for Telltale's brand of episodic gaming for the Wii, but he does say that the company will continue to evolve the adventure genre and feels the developer will continue growing the adventure genre for "years to come." A positive sign for more potential Telltale titles on the Wii front, perhaps?Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Monster Hunter 3 coming to U.S. and Europe, Capcom working on nine Wii titles

Those who took the time to dig through Capcom's most recent statistic-filled investor briefing for the upcoming fiscal year could find two interesting nuggets therein. The first, and most savory of these nuggets was a release date chart which revealed Capcom's plans to bring its upcoming pelt collecting action-RPG Monster Hunter 3 (Tri-) to the U.S. and Europe some time during this fiscal year. For those who slept through Econ 101, that means it should be in your hot little hands before next April Fools' Day.The second interesting bit was the revelation that Capcom is currently working on nine Wii titles to release in the current fiscal year. We know about six of them: Monster Hunter G (which dropped last month), Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Resident Evil Archives, Resident Evil Zero Archives, Spyborgs, and now, Monster Hunter 3. What could the other three titles be? Further reboots of old series? Another Archived Resident Evil? Brand new franchises? We may never know. No, wait -- yes, we will. Sorry about that.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Now Playing: May 10-16, 2009

We've got mixed feelings about highlighting a PS2 game this week. On the one hand, it's remarkable that a 9-year-old platform is still producing notable games. On the other ... it's a shame our current systems aren't delivering more noteworthy releases. There's always next week, we suppose.
