See some new Punch-Out!! boxers if you want to

We don't know how sensitive you guys are about Punch-Out!! spoilers. The game doesn't really have a story that you don't already know (Little Mac punches guys out), but we've been wrong before about what you would consider spoilers, and GoNintendo was spoiler-conscious in its link to this French trailer, so we're going to be judicious. After the break, we've embedded the trailer, which contains new footage of the new Punch-Out!! Some guys appear in it that haven't appeared in videos for this game yet. They are from old Punch-Out!! games. You can look if you want to, or don't look if you'd prefer to be surprised by the identity of the boxers you meet.[Via GoNintendo]

NintendoWare Weekly: Aliens, Pirates, and Soccer Players

This week, the various downloads across Nintendo platforms form quite the eclectic mix, though the quantity of what's available is sure to upset some. If you're looking for more than one title to download on each platform, then we're afraid you're out of luck.

First footage of Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver revealed

As promised, today's episode of Pokémon Sunday brought the now not-so-surprising reveal of Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. While the actual revelation wasn't particularly mind-blowing, the episode did feature a few seconds of gameplay (posted after the break) that will likely whet the appetites of many a pocket-sized monster fanatic. The gameplay itself isn't that interesting -- the protagonist merely walks in circles a few times -- though we do get a good sense of the Pearl and Diamond-esque art style the remakes will adopt. Also, if this clip is any indication, it looks like your starter pokémon will follow your character around in a Pokémon Yellow-esque fashion. We feel so sorry for Pokémon detractors. If you guys had hearts, that news would make them feel pretty warm.

Little Mac trains, Doc Louis eats in latest Punch-Out!! commercial

We all know that boxing is a rather physically demanding sport -- but rarely does anyone acknowledge the emotional toll it takes on participating pugilists. Take poor little Little Mac, former W.V.B.A. champ, whose remarkable achievements in the ring crumbled beneath the tremendous girth of King Hippo, setting the miniature boxer on a downward spiral that he wouldn't escape for 15 years. Now, with a little over a week between us and Little Mac's ringside return in Punch-Out!! for the Wii, he's getting back in shape with a bit of help from his bike riding den mother, Doc Louis. You can catch a short documentary/commercial (documercial?) about the rise and fall of Mac after the break. It's pretty funny! But also pretty tragic. (But mostly funny.)

The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes confirmed, trailer released

After rumors last week claimed Krome Studios to be working on an upcoming multiplatform Star Wars game, tentatively titled The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, Entertainment Weekly has since confirmed the game's existence. In the same aesthetic vein as the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the trailer focuses on a poorly voiced Yoda and -- big surprise! -- the possibility that failure means "all will be lost." Dare we say it? The graphics just aren't that impressive, especially compared with last year's The Force Unleashed. Still, the game's only out (on every system ever) by September 15th. Perhaps it'll catch our eye before then!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Ghostbusters dev: Publisher changes not 'ideal'

We realize it's a surprise, but apparently Terminal Reality believes that constantly changing publishers isn't all that great. The Ghostbusters game has traveled a very rocky publishing road, starting with Sierra, then sitting in limbo following the Activision / Vivendi merger, then moving to Atari and then moving to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for the European market. Adding to the mess, SCEE will initially release the game only on PS3 and PS2 in Europe, leaving the 360, Wii and DS versions for later this year.Speaking to GI.biz, Terminal Reality executive producer Brendon Goss said that the situation is not "ideal" as the developer prefers to create "a collaborative relationship" with publishers. He adds that all versions of the game are complete and he hopes that European release schedule won't cause confusion, which he said could harm sales of the game. In the face of the publishing decisions, which Goss said Terminal Reality had no say in, the team decided to focus on improving the game. We'll find out if that work paid off when the game releases this June.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

'World's Best DJ' last in the world to get on DJ game bandwagon

Armin van Buuren may be the "best DJ in the world," but now he's also the guy who picked the wrong time to jump into the DJ-game market. Foreign Media Games is publishing a Wii-exclusive game featuring Van Buuren's music, called Armin Van Buuren - In the Mix, due out this fall. The Cloud 9-developed music game will allow players to remix Van Buuren's music, including previously unreleased tracks, with "effects and loops." In addition to Van Buuren's work, the game will feature music from guest artists. There's no mention of a special controller, and the press release makes mention of utilizing "Wii functionality," which is probably the Wiimote. Maybe this game can distinguish itself from the others by not using a wacky controller, and thus being affordable.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Swords & Soldiers hits Europe May 15, US 'soon'

Ronimo Games, developer of Wii sleeper de Blob, has announced that its next game -- the side-scrolling FPS Swords & Soldiers -- will hit Europe on May 15. The distinctly designed WiiWare release will cost 1000 points. "B-but what about us?," you ask. We're assuming you're in the US, so we have some good (albeit vague) news: Ronimo has also confirmed that game will hack-'n'-slash its way Stateside soon after the EU release. Here's hoping that "soon" means the following Monday, May 18.[Via GoNintendo]

Capcom: Resident Evil franchise nears 40 million units, SFII still best all-time seller

According to Capcom's investor relations website, the Resident Evil franchise has clocked nearly 40 million units sold since the series inception in 1996. The next closest to that is the (much older) Mega Man franchise, which has managed to move 28 million. Behind Mega Man is the Street Fighter franchise with 27 million to its name.Even though Street Fighter can only lay claim to the third best franchise for Capcom, Ryu and friends can still boast about one thing: Street Fighter II for the Super Nintendo, which released waaaaay back in 1992, remains the company's all-time best seller, pushing 6.3 million copies. That said, Street Fighter II had better watch its back, as Resident Evil 5 has already sold 4.4 million copies since it released in March, nearly surpassing the 4.9 million copies of Capcom's second best seller, Resident Evil 2.[Via Gamasutra]Source - Capcom | Total Sales UnitsSource - Capcom | Platinum TitlesPermalink | Email this | Comments

Dead Space Extraction is EA 'experiment' in mature content for Wii

In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Glen Schofield, VP and general manager of the recently re-branded Visceral Games, said that the EA studio's upcoming Wii title Dead Space Extraction is an experiment in mature content on the platform for the publisher. Asked how he felt given the large portion of Nintendo's userbase seemingly disinterested in mature games, Schofield remarked, "I'm confident -- it is an experiment, but there's going to be 50 million Wiis out there by the time the game comes out, so if you only hit 2 per cent of the installed base and you've got a huge number."
Schofield also pointed to other publishers' attempts at tapping this market, no matter how small it may be, while managing to work in a dig on the low overall scores of most Wii titles. "There have been some [mature games] already, Resident Evil and House of the Dead, that have done really well," he said. "So we're pushing for that 80-plus-rated game, and that'll put you in the top 5 per cent of all Wii games... because most do not have a great score."
