Rumor: 45th track in Beatles: Rock Band is 'The End'

We can just picture it: Harmonix employees collectively having a laugh at our expense as the forty-fifth (and final) track featured in The Beatles: Rock Band is announced to be ... wait for it ... "The End." The image you see above certainly makes this possibility seem all the more real, as the Abbey Road track isn't listed anywhere on the nearly complete track list we've had for some time now. Apparently, the game has already landed in a few lucky forum-goers hands over at ScoreHero, who quickly revealed the alleged final track. Also revealed: The game's a lot of fun. Shocking! All kidding aside, though, we're fairly confident "The End" made it into the game as track number 45, but we'll have to wait and see with our own eyes when The Beatles: Rock Band launches next week.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Found: LostWinds 2 screens and video

About 20 seconds into this video of the freshly revealed sequel to Frontier's sleeper WiiWare platforming wonder, you'll probably be asking yourself, "Hey, where's the 'winter' in LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias?" Then, before you know it, BAM! It's winter. This seasonal manipulation is clearly a core game mechanic this time around, but the trailer does little to explain exactly why and how. For now, we're content simply knowing a follow-up to LostWinds is coming at all.

WiiWare fills its Bit.Trip Void

Ever felt like something was missing from the WiiWare lineup? Ever feel like the Bit.Trip series needed to be a trilogy? Good, because Aksys has just announced Bit.Trip Void for WiiWare. Like Bit.Trip Beat and Bit.Trip Core before it, Void takes retro visuals and gameplay and fuses it with a psychadelic chiptune soundtrack to create a synesthetic experience that would make Mizuguchi proud.Bit.Trip Void will feature four player local co-op when it debuts on WiiWare later this year. However, players will be able to get an early hands-on at PAX this weekend.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Guitar Hero 5: September DLC announced all at once

Activision has announced a few weeks' worth of Guitar Hero 5 DLC today. Following tomorrow's release of The Rolling Stones tracks, selections from Street Sweeper Social Club, AFI, Editors, The Faint, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be available in weekly updates. The full release list is available after the break. Activision announced the first month of DLC along with something called the "Guitar Hero Music Library," which, we believe, is a fancy marketing-style way of describing the collection of music you'll be able to build out of DLC, imported tracks, and on-disc content in Guitar Hero 5.

Harmonix to 're-energize' its franchises after The Beatles: Rock Band

Sure, The Beatles: Rock Band developer Harmonix has been busy working on next week's big release for some time now, but did you know it's also working on "re-energizing" its "core franchises?" Harmonix PR overlord John Drake told CVG as much, saying that while the studio is ready to refocus on its existing portfolio, it's been busy making sure it got The Beatles game 100 percent right. "We were terrified while making the game, hoping we don't make [Apple Corps] mad at any point -- they're really nice and easy to work with, but this is The Beatles, you can't afford to mess this up." Considering the longtime rhythm game developer more or less re-energized its Amplitude and Frequency franchises with Rock Band Unplugged, we're taking a wild stab in the dark here when we suggest Drake's likely talking about Rock Band 3. And does "re-energizing" in this case mean "adding Project Natal functionality?" We're not sure yet, but we've got our fingers as uncrossed as possible, just in case.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Latest Dead Space Extraction trailer reveals really big boss battle

The latest Dead Space Extraction trailer comes horrifyingly close to uttering the line, "You should buy this game because it's totally, like, full of scary von scariness." However, it's good at showing some more of the gameplay we can expect from the on-rails shooter when it injects into retail on September 29th.Some highlights include a look at a big tentacle boss, some of the "mini game" elements -- like building a barricade -- and a nice clear look at how stasis and strategic dismemberment will look. Oh, strategic dismemberment, it's been too long.

New Spyborgs trailer goes up

We find it funny that Capcom is celebrating the existence of an elevator level in Spyborgs with this trailer -- elevator levels are basically the laziest way to design a brawler level, requiring only a persistent floor, a looping background and frequent enemy drops from the top of the screen. That said, if you like brawlers, you probably like the opportunity to just beat up a pile of enemies without distractions like walking around. We know we do. And the more we think about it, the more we feel that focusing on the elevator level shows a certain level of familiarity with the staples of the brawling genre that is a bit comforting.Permalink | Email this | Comments

Club Nintendo members to get 'exclusive artwork' this month

Some Nintendo fans are disappointed in America's Club Nintendo initiative. In spite of giving away free swag the company is completely not required to do, many found this year's Elite bonuses (a hat and calendar) a bit lackluster. Perhaps a new bonus, "exclusive" to Club Nintendo members will cheer the naysayers.Nintendo's Denise Kaigler teased IGN readers with this cryptic message: "Keep your eyes on the Club Nintendo Web site in September. That's when we will offer members some exclusive Nintendo artwork." To make the offer even more enticing, she emphasizes how super-secret it is. "For the reason I mentioned earlier, I can't say any more than that right now - it's a secret to everybody."Perhaps Club Nintendo members will be able to get a super-exclusive sneak peak at the next Zelda game? Probably not -- but your theories are certainly welcome!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Scribblenauts UK release date erased, 'October 9' written over it

WB has announced a new UK release date for 5TH Cell's Scribblenauts: October 9. The company previously planned to release the title on September 25, then "October" (according to GamesCom press materials). Somehow, we doubt localization concerns are to blame. The North American version is still on track for September 15, which is so soon! So soon, in fact, that you could probably order one from the US and get it shipped to the UK before October 9. Just throwing that out there. In other Scribblenews, a bunch of fun downloadables are available at the website now. Your wallpaper could have more panda-riding on it.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Scene It? comes to Wii, PS3 this holiday

Great news: Holiday shopping for that uncle or aunt you don't know that well but think might have a game system just got a lot easier. The Scene It? franchise is branching out this holiday season from the 360, bringing Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! to the Wii and PS3, as well as to Microsoft's box. As an added bonus, the release makes no mention of special controllers for the Wii or PS3 version of the game, so hopefully Uncle Ernie won't be able to guess the gift from the size of the package.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
