New downloadable Bonk, Bomberman found on Hudson's website [update]

NeoGAF user VideoMan discovered currently unannounced games on Hudson's website, including a multiplatform downloadable Bonk update, a Bomberman Live sequel, and a Wii/DS version of Big Fish Games' generically titled Rooms: The Main Building. Most of the pages have been removed, but Bonk is still up, and VideoMan saved the screenshots and product descriptions.Bonk: Brink of Extinction is a WiiWare/PSN/Xbox Live Arcade 2.5D action platformer with online co-op (!) and eight different transformations. The 3D makeover the game has received is ... suboptimal, and the Adventure Island refresh wasn't great, but we can't help but be thrilled about the return of the Turbografx-16's mascot. It'll apparently be out first on XBLA in spring 2010.Bomberman Live Battlefest is also coming to all three console download services, and adds new arenas, gametypes, and team play to, well, Bomberman. And Rooms: The Main Building seems to be a Wii/DS retail game, based on the PC slide-puzzle adventure. We're contacting Hudson to learn what we can about the company's plans for these unannounced games.Update: Hudson officially announced Bonk and Bomberman, and sent screens over. Screens for Bomberman and both the PSN/Xbox and WiiWare versions of Bonk can be found in our galleries.

Dead Space Extraction pre-order instantly unlocks 'challenge rooms'

Dead Space Extraction has gone gold and is ready for its on-rails debut on September 29. Those who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive four challenge rooms. Of course, that does away with the actual challenge of unlocking them, since you normally gain access simply by playing through the game's chapters. Perhaps that explains Dead Space Girl's terrified expression on the cover -- she didn't pre-order and now has to play the game she just bought.

Study: Xbox 360 RROD on the decline

We're not sure there's a great way to write this post without you beautiful monsters turning it into flamebait -- nay, a flamesteak. We're just going to chuck it into the pit and then walk away in slow motion while the animals devour it. If we do it right, it should be very Guy Ritchie. SquareTrade, which claims to be the largest independent warranty provider in the world, has presented data indicating that the Red Ring of Death has been on the decline since the introduction of the Jasper chipset in early 2009. The findings were based on 16,000 new consoles covered by the company. Well, that's great news! We don't think we're forgetting anything.Nope, we're all set. Well, we guess the report did say that the Wii was nine times more reliable than the 360 and four times more reliable than the PS3, but we can't imagine that's of much interest to anyone. Report: Only 35 songs from Guitar Hero World Tour work with GH5 [update]

Update: It appears as though Activision itself has answered the question of what songs specifically are importable into Guitar Hero 5 from World Tour (35 songs) as well as Smash Hits (21 songs), via the Activision Customer Support Center. The full list of songs available from each game has been dropped after the break -- thanks to everyone for sending this in!We can't lie to you, friends -- when Activision claimed songs from last year's Guitar Hero World Tour would be playable in this year's Guitar Hero 5, we were skeptical. It seems that skepticism proved right, as USA Today reveals that a hair over one third of GHWT's tracks can be downloaded into the new game. Specifically, just 35 of World Tour's 86 tracks are playable in GH5, with an unspecified amount of Guitar Hero Smash Hits tracks available "later this Fall." The licensing fee for those 35 tracks is 280/$3.50 for Xbox 360 and PS3, though it remains unclear whether or not that fee would include Smash Hits' tracks when those are released. We've asked Activision for clarification of which tracks specifically are available in GH5 and when Smash Hits will be ready for download, but unfortunately were told that we'd get a release tomorrow with "tons of details." So this is where we crowdsource things -- Guitar Hero 5 owners in the Joystiq Biomass[TM], please let us know which 35 of Guitar Hero World Tour's 86 tracks are playable! Our inbox is always open!

Tower of Shadow renamed: Lost in Shadow

The short-lived title of Hudson's platformer Tower of Shadow has been reborn as Lost in Shadow. Everything else about the game, which seems to have its puzzles based in the perception and angle of shadows, appears to remain the same, with a release date shining upon mid-2010.

Some new images have been cast upon the gallery below. Be sure to check out the trailer (in Germanese) released during GamesCom to get a better idea of what to expect from the game. There's something about living shadows that is still unbelievably creepy.

Spiritual successor to Ace Attorney: Capcom's 'Ghost Trick'

With Ace Attorney creator Shu Takumi directing and a look that evokes a futuristic Lupin the 3rd, Capcom's new Ghost Trick has immediately attracted our attention. The concept, a mystery with shades of Time Hollow and D3's The Saibanin, is equally gripping. The game stars a man named Sisal who has just been shot dead. Now a ghost with no memories, he attempts to solve his own murder and put together the details of his own life before his soul dissipates. To carry out his investigation, Sisel can travel back and forth in time to see the events surrounding his death. He can also possess objects and use them to change history. Takumi told Famitsu (as translated by 1UP) that he came up with the idea for Ghost Trick during the production of Gyakuten Saiban 3 five years ago, in an effort to make "a new type of mystery, something different in style from Ace Attorney." The style might be different, but the involvement of dead people's spirits in murder cases is basically an Ace Attorney staple.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Explore the Void with Aksys and Gaijin Games

Gaijin Games is up to its old tricks again, offering inscrutable teasers for an upcoming game, though the new "Explore the Void" site is much more quietly lovely than the Commander Video mysteries we're used to. Over the last week or so, the developer has posted images to the site that have now been revealed as extreme closeups of satellite dishes in silhouette. What does it mean for the next game? Bit. Trip: Dish? Bit. Trip: Transmit?Bit. Trip: Zoomed In Images of Everyday Objects? At least we have pretty pictures to look at while we contemplate this puzzle.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Okamiden's new protagonist: Chibiterasu the lil' wolf

1UP has summarized the Famitsu article about Okamiden (which, yes, means it's real). The DS sequel, produced by Ace Attorney Investigations' Motohide Eshiro and directed by Dino Crisis series staffer Kuniomi Matsushita, takes place a few months after the end of Okami, at which point demons return for some reason.Instead of Amaterasu, the wolf being that comes down to help the village is Chibiterasu, a younger, less all-powerful wolf. Chibiterasu is helped by a partner character, the first of whom to be revealed is Kuninushi, the child of Susano from the first game. Chibiterasu will work with other partner characters throughout the game, each of whom can also be controlled independently.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

NEXiLUX offers plastic instrument storage solution with collapsible guitars

It's a scientific fact that 95 percent of American households are silently being overthrown by plastic musical instruments -- we'd wager your homestead is among those afflicted. Fortunately, a small video game accessories company, known as NEXiLUX, has come up with a clever solution for your guitar-storing needs: Collapsible guitar controllers, which are demoed in a video after the jump. Here's the bad news -- these guitars are only compatible with the Wii versions of Guitar Hero titles or Wii/PS3/PS2 versions of Rock Band games. Also, when snapped together, they form what one could only charitably call a "guitar" -- it would probably be more accurately described as a "skinny keytar." The good news? It makes your acts of post-rocking instrument destruction much less permanent.

Japanese Nintendo downloads: The worm returns

After last week's massive update in Japan, WiiWare is taking some time off. That means that the spotlight falls directly on the okay Virtual Console lineup for this week. Earthworm Jim 2 arrives as an import, which demonstrates two really wonderful things about Japan's Virtual Console -- first, that Mega Drive games only cost 600 Wii Points in Japan, and second, that imports don't cost any extra. Nor should they, as they aren't localized and they cost the same to put on a server as anything else. Also available this week: the arcade version of Xevious, and one of those ridiculous Koei strategy games, this one about Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
