Edge reveals LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias

WiIWare aficionados, brace your hind quarters. UK gaming mag Edge has revealed (via N-Europe) that a sequel to Frontier's LostWinds is in the works, titled LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias. While most of the core gameplay elements in the sequel remain unchanged, Toku returns with one new ability: he can now change the seasons, turning Summer to Winter and vice versa. There's no word on when the game will hit WiiWare right now, but if you live in the UK, you may want to check out the latest issue of Edge. The preview on LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias is apparently pretty extensive and, if you're wondering what all of the fuss is about, you still have time to check out the first game (which some of us think is quite excellent).[Via Go Nintendo; thanks, Fernando!]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Guitar Hero 5 ad features Hugh Hefner, plethora of Playboy Bunnies

Activision continues its Risky Business ad campaign (remember Guitar Hero World Tour's and Guitar Hero Metallica's?) with Guitar Hero 5, which shows Hef and some of his gals (okay, mostly his gals) rocking out with plastic guitars. It's an effective ad, for two reasons:

  1. It shows that, should we pick up Guitar Hero 5, we too could have a room full of hotties gyrating and looking all sexy-like
  2. Playboy Bunnies are skilled in the art of clairvoyance and don't even need to look at the TV to play

The Beatles: Rock Band visits Abbey Road

In a 30-second clip that we're not exactly sure came from this decade, MTV Games/Harmonix preview upcoming music/rhythm game The Beatles: Rock Band by way of a big party on Abbey Road. No, we don't mean the street itself, we mean that the enormously famous album cover got turned into a big ol' 30-second party in celebration of the upcoming game. Other than a somewhat creepy faux John Lennon around the halfway mark, this commercial provides yet another reason to be more excited than ever for the day that the Dreamcast turns 10.

WiiWare Monkey Island Ep. 2 on sail Monday, Aug. 31

Our last post about a Tales of Monkey Island episode launching on WiiWare was written entirely in pirate speak. This one won't be. Nope, we'll just tell you that the second episode in Telltale's ongoing series, "The Siege of Spinner Cay," will be available on WiiWare this coming Monday, August 31, for 1000 Wii Points ($10). See, that wasn't so harrrrrrd. (Darnit!)

Spyborgs dev: Wii 'not excuse' for bad graphics

The gang at 4 Color Rebellion nabbed an interview with Spyborgs lead producer Daryl Allison, in which he (very) subtly slams Wii developers for using the system itself as a cop-out for delivering sub-par visuals. "We were going to make a game that fans of Devil May Cry and God of War would enjoy," Allison said. "Those gamers expect great graphics. Being on the Wii was not an excuse to disappoint them."We're not sure it's kosher for Allison to throw rocks at other Wii titles before his is completely finished, but we do agree with his point. Wii may not be an HD powerhouse, but it's capable of some truly lovely looking games. Unfortunately, those titles take the type of motivation that isn't printed by the US Treasury to make.

Why, hello! Next week's Rock Band Weekly brings a heaping serving of Talking Heads. No, no, not television talk show guests and nightly news anchors ... the band, you know? You ... you don't know? FFCC: Crystal Bearers now bears a Japanese release date

Four years after it was first revealed, Square Enix has finally announced a Japanese release date for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers: November 26. That makes us doubt it'll be out Stateside before the end of the year, but at least it's actually being released. Actually, for a long time we perceived Crystal Bearers as in trouble or delayed, but four years for a Final Fantasy game seems about right! Square Enix also revealed the box art (posted in full after the break), which is both nice-looking on its own merits and evidence that Square Enix is getting around to finally putting this thing into boxes![Via GAME Watch]

Rumor: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set to assault DS and DSi

Heroes in a half-shell news now, as we've got a pair of juicy tidbits dealing with the pint-sized martial arts masters. First, we present this OFLC certification which says that recently released downloadable Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled is set to grace the DSi. Sadly, we have nothing else to go on but that, though we must say the prospect of yelling "turtle power!" at our DSi on the subway is an appealing one. Our second item is a little more interesting. GoNintendo points us toward the latest issue of Nintendo Power, which supposedly reveals TMNT: Arcade Attack, a new title for the DS that utilizes the Turtles in Time formula (see: arcade style beat-em-up). GoNintendo says the game "supports 2-player action, allows you to throw enemies at the screen, and even lets you jump-kick enemies...but in a way that doesn't let you spam the move to victory," though we haven't seen the issue ourselves yet to confirm. If you have it, well, send us a tip! Source - Turtles in Time: Reshelled OFLC cert [Via Gamerbytes]Source - TMNT: Arcade Attack in Nintendo PowerPermalink | Email this | Comments

European Nintendo downloads: Oscar in Troll-land

This week's European Wii/DSi Shop update includes no Virtual Console game, but it does almost include Trolls! That's right, Oscar in Toyland is a DSiWare remake of an Amiga game called Trolls! Thankfully for people who value sleeping at night without those faces burned into their minds, the Trolls license has been removed. Even if it's a Trolls game, a near-direct port of an old game on DSiWare is pretty cool.On WiiWare, Gameloft offers a Texas Hold'em Poker that isn't the same game as the Texas Hold'em Tournament that's been available since March. Want Texas Hold'em without the pressure of the tournament setting, or something? Well, there you go. In addition, this week's WiiWare Mr. Driller game is now available. There's also new DLC for My Life as a Darklord.

  • Texas Hold'em Poker (WiiWare, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points)
  • Mr. Driller W (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
  • Oscar in Toyland (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

Capcom rewards patient Okami buyers with Amaterasu phone strap

Someone in Japan has been waiting years for the Wii release of Okami, having let the PS2 release pass in 2006, and then watching the Wii port release everywhere but Japan in 2008. That hypothetical person's patience will be rewarded on October 15, when e-Capcom orders of the Japanese Wii version of Okami will ship with this Amaterasu phone (or DS) strap. It's totally worth the wait. It beats the "bonus" IGN watermark we got in North America, though the replacement art was certainly nice. In addition to the little porcelain Amaterasu, a limited number of Okami soundtrack discs will be handed out with the game.[Via Andriasang]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
