WireWay pops up again

Konami's WireWay, an action game about bouncing a little alien around on wires, is flying dangerously under the radar, but we refuse to let it go ignored! Mostly because we are always interested in DS games with unique mechanics -- this one involves using wires placed around the stage as slingshots to move protagonist Wiley higher and higher in pursuit of star items. But also because this trailer Konami made for the game is too infectiously upbeat not to share. Bounce into our gallery for new screens!

Demented new Dementium 2 screens

Renegade Kid has released screens of Dementium II. We've already had a gander at the game's super freaky box art, but this is the first glimpse we've had of the actual game. The screens look very promising for a DS game, especially the lighting. Granted, it's hard to be as freaked out by such tiny screen shots, but we're missing the sound effects and music that properly set off the atmosphere. Based solely on the images, we're eager to see some more. Preferably in motion. Check out the first screens in the gallery below. Permalink | Email this | Comments

See Tower of Shadow in action

This is going to have to be one of those cases of style over substance, because even though we know the trailer for Tower of Shadow looks quite pretty, we can't make out a word of the strange moon man language attached to it. Seriously, what is that, Sanskrit?

Barred from informative text, we're forced to critique the aesthetic choices made in the trailer. In brief, the music is great but that title font? Yuck-o. It's like Stryper's font guy half-finished the logo before taking the day off before letting his drunken five-year-old nephew finish up. Permalink | Email this | Comments

Hands-on: DJ Hero

It may look like Guitar Hero at first glance, but DJ Hero is anything but. The introduction of a new plastic controller (this time, in the shape of a turntable) certainly changes the feel of the game, but what really makes DJ Hero so novel is its sound. The music genre has become over-saturated with guitar riffs and the sounds of rock and metal. It only takes a few seconds to immediately recognize that DJ Hero brings something brand new to the table -- something we couldn't say about the genre for a long time now.To say DJ Hero's lineup is eclectic would be an understatement. What other game not only offers a lineup so diverse, but encourages players to mix the sounds of artists like Eminem, Tears for Fears, N.E.R.D. and the Jackson 5? Not only has developer FreeStyleGames managed to compile a variety of sounds for the game, but they've managed to combine these into devilishly edgy mixes. Certainly, this is a game that demands your attention. It's a rare feat that a game can be mesmerizing even when it's not being played. We can easily see people adding DJ Hero to their library, using it as the soundtrack to a house party. Good thing the developers had the foresight to add a non-interactive jukebox mode, letting you enjoy the game in a purely hands-off way.

Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll into new screens

These latest screens of Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll reveal that, aside from the new Balance Board functionality, this is the Super Monkey Ball we're all used to. Which is to say, it's the cutest thing in the world. We admit we have a soft spot in our hearts for AiAi and his cinnamon-roll-eared pals. Not enough to keep us from throwing them all off of a checkerboard platform, but enough that we, you know, try.We suspect that, by allowing ourselves to be charmed by Monkey Ball and its promise of wonderful minigames once again (some kind of Monkey Landspeeder thing!), we're setting ourselves up for crushing disappointment when it turns out not to be as good as Super Monkey Ball 2, like they all have since Super Monkey Ball 2.

Here's a beautiful FIFA 10 trailer from GamesCom

We may not know much about the athletes on the various covers of FIFA 10, but we do know that this trailer looks damn impressive. In fairness, the game often looks rather stunning, but the sizzle reel that EA has whipped up for GamesCom (found after the break) is specifically meant to show off the game to its most active market -- which certainly comes through in production quality. Though we don't watch a ton of sports (and we play even less) we're legitimately looking forward to EA's next entry in the FIFA series, set to release this October.

Wii's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare screens can't be helped

So, we've got the first screenshots of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Wii, collected in a gallery for your enjoyment below. And to think, we were worried that they wouldn't be able to approach the look of Modern Warfare on the 360 and PS3! Can you imagine? All jokes aside ... have a look at the dead guy in the foreground of the above shot. Does something look a little odd to you? Perhaps a closer look is in order. And those clouds? Didn't we see them in our Betamax copy of Apocalypse Now. Sure, old flat gun here looks like he's in a real screenshot, but if you think about it, that's even more terrifying. GameStop offers Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles shirt with pre-order

Forget every negative thing we've ever said about GameStop. That company is made up entirely of heroes. Why? Because when you pre-order Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles from GameStop, you'll receive the formerly Comic-Con exclusive zombie face t-shirt. We're just ... so relieved to be able to get one of these -- we thought the opportunity had passed.Sure, this is probably more Capcom's doing than GameStop's, but we get to love Capcom all the time. We're giving GameStop a chance today. We really like that shirt.[Thanks, Matthew!]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
