NintendoWare Weekly: Picturebook Games, Revenge of Shinobi

Today's highlight is no doubt Revenge of Shinobi, the first Shinobi game on the Sega Genesis. What's funny about this is that the third game in the series on that console, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, was released on the Wii way back in 2007. Two-thousand-and-freaking-seven, people! How crazy is that? More after the break.

Link costume pattern acquired, baby in production

Having heard the cries of the internet, the Happy Seamstress has revealed the secrets of her baby-sized Link costume. The pattern that sent our desire for a spawn into overdrive is now available -- for free. The incredibly detailed instructions should now immediately be given to your friend with +3 knitting skill. You can also leave a donation for the pattern on the Happy Seamstress' site. The outfit appears to take a little time to complete and we understand that making a baby usually takes about nine months, if you want to make one of your own. Wait, what? It requires two people? That complicates things.Source -- Happy SeamstressSource -- Baby Link pattern [Warning: PDF link][Thanks, Maggie]Permalink | Email this | Comments

Where the Wild Things Are gameplay trailer starts a wild rumpus

click to wild thing-size
Sure, we could chastise the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are game for being a cash-in on the upcoming Spike Jonze movie. And yes, the first trailer (found after the break) could be as unexciting for you as it was for us from a gameplay standpoint. But hey, it's Where the Wild Things Are. We're kind of giving it a pass based on the sheer adorability of it all. Go ahead, try not to smile at all the 'wild rumpusing' taking place. We may not be super interested in running around whacking stuff as the book's main character Max, but we sure do like all the nods to the eponymous book. Please excuse these rose-tinted goggles, but we'll be needing to keep them on until October, thank you very much.

Inglourious Plummers trailer finally combines Mario and Tarantino

We always thought the Leguizamo-infused Super Mario Bros. film had the propensity to be amazing, if only a more visionary director had grasped the reins of the adaptation. The video we've posted after the jump gives a look into a parallel universe of what could have been -- a universe where Quentin Tarantino had control of the plumber's first silver screen excursion. The video was produced by the folks over at GamerVision. You might want to brush up on the trailer for Tarantino's upcoming film Inglourious Basterds before you check it out -- their video is a shot-by-shot remake of said trailer, only it takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom instead of Nazi Germany. We never thought about it before watching the video, but the similarities between these two regions are actually rather striking.[Via DumbDrum]

EA looking to add Michael Vick to Madden 10 on August 19

Earlier today, Kotaku reported everyone's favorite animal lover (sarcasm, ahoy!) could make his way into Madden 10 via an update. See, yesterday he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, cementing his return to the NFL. But, since Madden 10 already shipped, many wondered if he would even be in the game. Enter: Rob Semsey, EA's resident dude to pass all Madden questions to, who told Kotaku that EA was trying to get him into the game and promised "an announcement in the near future." But, see, here at Joystiq, that doesn't cut the mustard, so we grilled Semsey for something more. He had this to say: "Michael Vick will be added to the Philadelphia Eagles roster in the next Madden NFL 10 roster update, pending NFLPA and NFL approvals. The next roster update will go live approximately on August 19th for Xbox 360 and PS3, with additional platforms to follow shortly thereafter." So, yes, he'll even make his way to the Wii game and, in all likelihood, we could all see Vick sporting some green as early as this Wednesday.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

ESRB reveals Ninja Gaiden, Rygar, Solomon's Key on Virtual Console Arcade

If you, like us, were jealous of the Japanese release of the arcade Ninja Gaiden game on Virtual Console, you can dry your ninja eyes (just pull up the front of the ninja mask and dab with that). The ESRB reveals that Tecmo is planning a North American release of the arcade brawler.Tecmo isn't stopping with Gaiden, either: further ESRB listings have appeared for arcade versions of both Rygar and Solomon's Key (which will be released in Japan next week). Oddly, the company's other upcoming Japanese VC release, Bomb Jack, is absent from the ESRB list.At the very least, we can all be happy that these are video games that someone wants to release on the Virtual Console.[Via Siliconera]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Nintendo announces Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver for US

Turn those baseball caps backwards and clear you calendars, because Nintendo's latest Pokemon titles, Pokemon HeartGold and Pokemon SoulSilver, are set to invade North America during spring of next year. The games release in Japan next month and take players back to the Johto region, recreating the classic Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver games on the Game Boy Color. The press release made no mention of the walking functionality, which kind of bums us out. What, you didn't think we would actually beef up our Pokemon by playing the game, did you?

Analyst: July Wii hardware sales lowest since launch

According to Broadpoint AmTech analyst Ben Schachter, the Wii hardware sales numbers that NPD reported yesterday were the lowest since the November 2006 launch of the system. "Although Wii Sports Resort sold well," he commented to IndustryGamers, "it appears to have offered little lift to Wii hardware sales, increasing the probability in our view that Nintendo must lower the price soon (we expect a September cut)."Of course, Schachter didn't mention the Wii's position relative to its competitors. Considering that the Wii's worst month ever meant that it plummeted into the #1 position among home consoles, and #2 overall behind the DS, it's possible that Nintendo could see this a bit differently from analysts and ... price drop enthusiasts.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Could this portable SNES look any better?

So you're not in suspense, the answer the the question we've presented in the headline is "No." In fact, we'd guess that ancient, primitive cultures given a glimpse of this lovely mod would instantly build an fortified temple around it, taking breaks from worshipping it only to make more progress in ActRaiser. So, in closing, Darthchris 13, we'll take 30. And try to have them ready by the weekend, OK?[Via Engadget]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
