Ace Attorney series will continue to testify on DS

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth producer Motohide Eshiro told us that there were no plans for the Ace Attorney series to migrate to other consoles. In an interview with Siliconera, he offered more reasoning for the DS loyalty.

"It's not that we don't like other hardware and that we don't want to do it," Eshiro said. "It's just it was original made for handhelds, it was made to be played on the go, and also the interface we created the game, especially for Ace Attorney Investigations, uses the touch screen and we want people to interact with that. You can't replicate that on Xbox Live. For us, the DS seems like the most natural fit."

What has changed was the original plan for Investigations' protagonist. Eshiro revealed that "scientific investigator" and Apollo Justice detective Ema Skye was intended for the role. "The director originally proposed to use Ema as the main character," he said, "but according to the feedback we got from our fans it seems Edgeworth was the more popular character." And thus we have a game with a "Logic System" instead of a "Snackoo-Eating System." Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Get a MotionPlus with NHL 2K10 in Canada

Nintendo has already, to the surprise of many, partnered with EA to bundle MotionPlus peripherals with sports games. Now, according to a Canadian retail listing, the company is collaborating with another third party on a bundle. Futureshop lists an NHL 2K10 package featuring 2K Sports' hockey game (and its utterly terrifying box art) and a MotionPlus, for $69.99 (about $63 USD). Amazon.ca also shows the same bundle at a $10 discount.

These seemingly Canada-exclusive bundles will ship concurrently with the standalone release on September 15.

Groovy: Interplay and Gameloft making new downloadable Earthworm Jim

Interplay has announced a new Earthworm Jim for PSN, WiiWare, XBLA, and mobile platforms. Well, specifically, it announced that Gameloft will develop and publish a new Earthworm Jim game on those platforms. Which is ... considerably less exciting than if original creators Shiny Entertainment (now a part of Double Helix) were to return to the franchise. However, it is possible that this is the "Earthworm Jim 4" project for which creator Doug TenNapel was hired to consult -- which would be very groovy indeed.

The recent XBLA Genesis poll proved that there is a sizable Earthworm Jim fanbase, a fact that must have delighted executives at Interplay and Gameloft as they prepared to make this announcement. We didn't realize there are still that many Earthworm Jim fans in the world after Earthworm Jim 3D -- a game with which we hope this new release has nothing in common.

Earthworm Jim will debut on XBLA in the "last quarter of 2009," and will remain exclusive to that platform for one month.

Rage of the Gladiator's Vensor battles with magic, acting

The latest trailer for Ghostfire Games' Rage of the Gladiator introduces one of the deadliest weapons the the game's antagonists employ: voice acting. This trailer features Lord Vensor the 3rd, a "diabolical magician" who has honed both his combat and his oratory in the arena of Medieval Times. We don't think we're going to hesitate at all when the time comes to smash him with a big hammer.

Interestingly, one of his magical techniques is a teleportation move in which he quickly moves in a circle before stopping again to attack. It reminds us a lot of Great Tiger's signature move from Punch-Out!!, demonstrating some of the stated influence from that game.

Some stuff is too violent even for MadWorld

We're sure we don't have to tell you how violent MadWorld is. But, what you may not know is that some of the over-the-top violence originally conceptualized was a bit too violent for the game disc that's not been spinning in your Wii for the last few months. Past the break, you'll find a deleted finishing move, one we must warn you is one of the most violent things you will ever see. We know the majority of MadWorld is tongue-in-cheek, but this is like tongue-in-meat-grinder-while-being-stabbed kind of gruesome. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Phoenix Wright artbook is Exhibit A in the case of Udon vs. our wallets

Udon Entertainment has announced its next Capcom artbook, following collections of Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and Mega Man art: The Art of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, featuring 240 pages of improbably dramatic images of lawyers and their teenage friends. The book features covers, promotional art, and character designs and profiles from the three Phoenix Wright graphical text adventures, as well as "the complete artwork" from Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

Udon plans to release this in October -- the same month in which it will release the Mega Man Official Complete Works, potentially causing a problem for people with only enough money in their artbook budget for one book about a blue-clad Capcom character per month.
